Our Process
Dialogue & Discovery
Before we start designing, we want to get to know each other. Your needs and expectations are important to us, and we want to show you what we can do.
-
Reach out to us over email or the phone so we can figure out if our abilities match your project. Ed or Angelica Kisiel, owners of EKA Build, will personally reach out to you. We’ll discuss the type of project as well as the timeline and budget to see if we’re a fit.
-
We understand that choosing a builder for your custom home is a process, and we will never rush you through it. Our goal is to understand your needs and give you all of the tools to make your decision.
-
There’s no better way to know the quality of our builds than to witness it for yourself. We’ll take you on a field trip to one of our sites that best matches your project so you can see our craftsmanship at work.
-
We are strong believers in knowing our clients so we can provide what you need throughout the entire process. Besides showing you one of our projects, we like to meet in person to get our dialogue started and mutually decide if we are the right fit for each other.
What to look for in a builder
A new custom home is a huge undertaking, and your builder will be the one by your side for every step. You want to choose one who will fit your needs. But how can you decide between the many qualified companies bidding on your project?
-
You will be in close contact with this person for the next year or so. Are they someone you can see yourself calling, emailing, and talking to on a daily basis?
-
Discover if their ability matches your needs. Not all builders have the same strengths.
-
A quality builder has years of experience, keeps up to date on industry standards, and has a clear reputation.
-
Larger companies have more resources but have more overhead. Smaller companies offer more individual attention, but lack some of the in-house services.
-
A builder whose priorities align with yours is always going to be better at fulfilling your needs.
-
The people who best know any builder are the ones living in their homes. Seek out reviews and testimonials, and ask if you can speak with past clients to see what they say about build quality and customer experience.
Planning & Design
Now that we know each other, it’s time to start realizing your vision for a perfect home. With our belief in a proactive approach to design, we ensure that you are involved in the design process so that we can lay our groundwork with all of your goals and needs in mind.
-
Once you are ready to move forward with EKA as your builder, your commitment to the Planning & Design phase begins with a design fee, which is refunded after you sign us on to complete the project, and we finish the build.
-
Whether you’re already working with an architect or you want to work with ours, we’ll get them on board and up to speed. We will work with the architect to bring the build to life with the look and layout of your home.
-
You will be involved in the design process. Our discussions about your goals, lifestyle, budget, and schedule will inform the decisions made throughout the design. We will make sure the architect knows what’s important to you.
-
Our interior designers are happy to work closely with you to bring together the final look and feel of your home. Involving our interior design team early allows us to design the house proactively and ensure we don’t have to backtrack to make your home exactly how you like it.
-
We also can provide help with designing your exteriors. While some people like to leave landscaping to a later date, wrapping it into the homebuilding process will ensure that all layout considerations are made and your whole property has a cohesive look.
-
As a licensed professional engineer, Ed will make sure that every aspect of your home is designed with the highest attention to detail and the most up to date practices in the industry. Every home with EKA Build is a High Performance Home.
What is a High Performance Home?
The world of modern building is filled with buzzwords and technical speak, and it’s easy to get lost in all of the terms. A “high performance home” is a term we use to mean that your home was built right.
-
Current building techniques allow us to design homes with a holistic approach to energy efficiency and comfort. A deep understanding of airflow, moisture, and thermodynamics means that our builds will outperform even Energy Star homes on efficiency and price to operate.
-
Airtight designs, backed up by modern insulation, and high performance windows keep the temperature where you want it all year long. Bringing fresh air into your home keeps you and your home healthy.
-
Our performance builds are extremely durable with few maintenance needs or safety concerns. You won't worry about rot, structural failings, or mold. Instead, you’ll be able to enjoy peace of mind in your new home.
Build & Move In
With a well thought out plan in place, we are eager to get our boots on the ground and start building. A transparent approach to the building process and structured collaboration tools with an online portal keeps our communication alive and strong throughout the build and long after your move-in date.
-
When you’re all ready to get started on the build, we’ll draw up a construction agreement contract. With our name signed to your project, we won’t cut any corners. We’ll jump every hurdle with the knowledge of what will satisfy you, not just settle for easy solutions.
-
We know how excited you are to see progress on your new home, and we make tracking your project as easy as possible with bi-weekly updates and on-site meetings when applicable. Our communication tools and online portal houses a list of documents as well as photos and pictures that keep every step of the build accessible.
-
Our online portal and tools will also allow you to stay up to date on the budget and timeline. A decision file will document all selections made for the home as well as associated costs and timing. Our scheduling platform will provide live updates on what is happening when.
-
We are frequently on the jobsite throughout the build to oversee and to ensure that we can answer any questions you might have. Our own walkthroughs of the build allows us to catch small details even you wouldn’t notice.
-
As construction is getting wrapped up, we execute two walkthroughs with you to make sure everything is to your satisfaction, and we can fix any issues before we hand over the keys. Only once you're satisfied with the build, it is time to move in!
-
We like to stay in contact and check in a few months after your move in to ensure that your home is performing the way it ought to. We remain available to you long after move-in for any details you might need. We also touch base with you after about a year from your move in date.
